Vote Today - NFL Player of the Week

Many thanks to Patriots.com for bringing this to my attention:

"Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is a finalist for the FedEx Express NFL Player of the Week. Also nominated in Week 1, Brady completed 23 of 29 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns in the Patriots 38-7 victory over the Bills last weekend. Under Brady's leadership, the Pats controlled the clock for 34:19 in that game. He's already been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for that effort. Fans can vote for Brady at NFL.com RIGHT NOW, but voting ends at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday of this week. The winner will be announced Thursday evening on NFL.com."

Pimping Little Brady

Ugh, celebrities! In an obvious attempt to breath life into her floundering career as a d-list actress, Bridget Moynahan pimped first-time photos of Tom Brady's son John to the highest bidder. And the winner is... OK! magazine for $100,000. There should be laws against this.

Bills Defeated

(Brady and Losman talk after the game.)

As expected, Tom Brady and Patriots defeated the Bills today in Foxboro, 38-7. Tom completed 4 touchdowns; two to Moss, one to Watson, and one to Gaffney. For the Bills QB J.P. Losman, the game ended early due to a knee injury sustained during a sack, 65 seconds into the first quarter.

Style Icon?

(Tom and Gisele on the streets of NY)

Is Tom Brady a fashionista? Some seem to think so. Given his recent spread in VMAN magazine, multiple showings in GQ, and his attendance at Paris runways, Tom is turning heads in the fashion world and getting noticed.

Today, the Boston Globe published a lengthy article summarizing Tom's fashion accomplishments and style know-how:

"Brady is an eager participant in photo shoots, asserts a few opinions of his own, and arrives with a firm sense of self. 'He knows his light, he knows his angle. He has a certain amount of trust with the photographer,' says John Mather, the fashion director of Best Life who arranged September's spread, which features Brady in a new line of Tom Ford clothes."

Huge Victory Against Chargers

Tom Brady and the Patriots managed a huge victory over the San Diego Chargers last night in Foxboro, defeating the Chargers 38-14. The Brady-Moss combo, teamed with an amazing defense, renders the Patriots seemingly unstoppable in a season that is quickly living up to all the pre-season hype.

And with this win against San Diego, possibly the most formidable team in the season lineup, comes a slap in the face to all the "spy" mongers who thought gossip and politics would drag the Patriots down.

Great win guys! Maybe we should just skip to the playoffs.

GQ Cover

Tom Brady is once again on the cover of GQ Magazine. This time, he's one of 10 covers for GQ's 50th anniversary commemoration, which will be on the stands this Wednesday.

According to the Boston Globe:

"What helped Brady make the cut? Jim Moore, GQ's creative director, said it was the three Super Bowl rings, of course . . . plus Brady's charity work, his leadership on the field, and his self-mocking 2005 appearance on "Saturday Night Live." "We liked the fact that Tom Brady represents today," Moore said. "He's got a great spirit about him and he's an incredible leader. . . . We feel that his career is just getting going." Brady is also the only GQ cover boy who got new pictures taken for the occasion; for the other covers, GQ used iconic photos from each subject's era. Photographer Richard Burbridge, known for his stark and provocative portraits, shot Brady over the summer in New York."

Ready for San Diego

(Tom practicing in Foxboro today)

In a conference call with the west coast media, Tom Brady talked about his thoughts on the upcoming home-opener game against the Chargers:

“They've got a great team. I know they think they've improved from last year. There's 11 Pro Bowlers last year, one of the best running backs of all time, the best tight end in the league, a great offensive line, a Pro Bowl quarterback, two of the best outside linebackers in the game. They have a ball-hawking secondary, a great group of linebackers, the best nose tackle in the league. They're great at every position.

“We played these guys in a very meaningful game last year. We came out ahead and I'm sure they've had this highlighted on their schedule for a long time, and so have we. It should be a great contest. The team that is more prepared and the team that executes better is going to win the game.

“I tell you, it's a great defense. They're able to rush the passer, they're a pressure defense. It's a great team. Any time you play great teams, they're going to win their fair share of battles. I just hope we can go out there and play a little bit better than we played the last time that we played them.”

With two well matched teams, the game is sure to be nail-biter. I hope all the "spying" hoopla wasn't too much of a distraction for the Patriots during practice this week. Hopefully this is where their notorious professionalism will payoff.

Good luck Tom, we'll be rooting for you!

Another Condo for Sale

Want to be Tom Brady's neighbor? The Boston Globe is reporting that Tom is selling two condo units in the Beacon Street building he purchased for $6.2 million last year.

One unit has 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, and is selling for $4.59 million. The other unit, which has 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths is selling for $3.99 million. Tom will be keeping the building's top two floors.

More VMAN photos

Hello Tom! I posted previously about Tom Brady's latest interview and photo-spread in VMAN magazine. More photos are now available on the VMAN site.

New SI Interview

As Tom Brady and Matt Cassel practiced in Foxboro today (pictured above), Sports Illustrated released a new interview with Tom, whose noteworthy quotes include:

"You want me to help guys be cool? Why me? I was the little sports nerd in high school who hardly ever had a girlfriend!"

About celebrity:

"I get so embarrassed having everybody looking at me," he says. "I just want to stop and go, 'What are you staring at?' I mean, I'm just walking out the door, you know? And people follow me! I have to disguise myself now. I never go out without a hoodie on. My head is always down! I never make eye contact anymore! It's like I'm not even myself!"

On turning down endorsements:

"You realize you're turning down a lot of dough, yeah, but it's just not me. I'm just not going to go out and do a Chunky Soup ad.... Like that [MasterCard] ad Peyton did about, 'Cut that meat! Cut that meat!' -- our D-line yelled that every time he came up to the line. 'Cut that meat!' Man, I'm so glad I didn't do that one."

Regarding his new son:

"I kind of cuddled him like a football," Brady says, adding that it's killing him that he can't be in Los Angeles for every sneeze. "I'd love to be out there all the time, year-round, but it's hard to make that a reality. I live here. But I'll start lobbying for off days throughout the year."

NY Crys "Foul"

Save me from people who can't stand Tom Brady's spotlight!

With yesterday's accusation that the Pats were secretly recording Jets' hand signals, people in NY are suggesting that Tom avoided a sack because he had illegal insider information.

Or maybe... he avoided being sacked because he's the best QB playing on the best team in the NFL. Hmmm - I wonder which is more likely?

Jets Get Clobbered

In the season opener against the Jets, Tom Brady and the Patriots performed amazingly and won 38-14 in a game that had few errors and where Tom was only hit once. In the post-game news conference, Tom stated:

"With plenty of time to throw, I had plenty of time to survey the field," said Brady. "When they're pressured, they always had the right guy … It was nice that we had the time to throw it."

"I think that offensive line did a spectacular job," he said. "They work so hard and I think they're so well coached. (Offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia) puts a lot of pressure on the offensive line and they're so consistent."

Tom & the Jets

Ok, so this an old Snickers campaign video with Tom Brady from awhile back, but how timely for today as we head into this weekend's season opener against the Jets:

VMAN Cover

Tom Brady is looking fine on the cover of the latest issue of VMAN magazine, due to hit the newsstands on September 10. And inside, an interview with Tom regarding his personal life. Some quotes:

About his friends:

"I always say if I ever come back in another life I want to come back as one of my friends. They don't pay for [expletive]. Dinners. Trips. You name it," he says. "I watch 'Entourage' and, like that show, I got a name for all these guys."

On what he wants to do next:

"I used to say politics, but now it seems too ugly. I was always . . . someone wanting to stand up against things I didn't think were right," he says. "But I tell you politicians are scrutinized more than anyone. . . . I couldn't deal with that."

Supporting Dems or Repubs?

"I think everyone wants a change. I think it would be great if the Democratic Party could put together a unified campaign."

On his love of football:

“There’s nothing I love to do more than get on the field in front of 80,000 people. I can travel, I can go on a roller coaster, I can skydive—none of it can measure up to football.”

About wearing a Yankees cap:

"I guess you can't root for both teams, but what can I say? I like them both," Brady said. "Besides, my true affiliation is for the San Francisco Giants."

Taking It Easy at Practice

Tom Brady sat out most of practice yesterday in Foxborough (pictured above) officially due to his "chronic" shoulder injury dating back to 2002. Of course, Belichick has used the injury report to his strategic advantage in the past, and now with new NFL rules I previously posted about, this may be a case of coachmanship and not injury.

But in his defense, Tom said at the beginning of preseason that he would take it easy:

"One thing I'm doing a little bit different is that I'm really monitoring my throws in the preseason," he said. "Before I'd come out and I'd throw 100 balls a day. After a while, you throw 100 balls here at practice, that's 200 balls a day in two-a-days, and you go, `After four days, why is my arm sore?' Well, because you're throwing (so much)."

Season Opener

Pictured above, Tom Brady at practice yesterday in Foxoborough as the Patriots get ready for their season opener against the Jets this Sunday.

Meanwhile, the press went crazy earlier this week as Bridget Moynahan made her first public appearance with Tom's baby while out on a walk. Link to photos.

On Holiday

After spending some time in Boston prior to Thursday's game, Tom Brady and Gisele headed back to New York for the holiday weekend. This photo was taken of them on Saturday, 9/1.

Meanwhile, this weekend the press has been slamming Gisele for sending Tom's new baby a gift basket that included a onesie with the word "Supermodel" across it. The assumption is that Bridget was offended by the $1000 gift basket.

When it comes to the baby, Gisele can do no right with this issue... whatever she says or does will be taken the wrong way.
